7 ways to show your family that you love them

Many times we simply assume that others know how we feel about them. Even if they know, it still does not hurt to show your family that you love them. If you do not know how to do it, the following article offers some important tips.

How to show your family you love them

Maybe you think you have to walk down the street, hug your family and say sweet things so everyone can hear and see, to show your family you love them. But loving words spoken privately are far more valuable than public displays of affection. If you do not know how to tell family members that you love them, you can start by expressing your feelings when no one is listening. It will make things a lot easier.

Do you find it difficult to say how you feel? Here are some helpful tips:

1. Do not be shy

Maybe you do not express how you feel about your family because you are too shy or embarrassed. But do you know how to overcome your fears and embarrassments? By saying what you feel! You do not have to say anything eloquent or elaborate. Just a few magic words like “I love you” are enough. What’s the worst that could happen? That they tell you they love you too!

2. Leave small messages

If you feel that you are still not ready to show your family that you love them face to face then you can leave them a message. Put a note somewhere so they can find it when you’re not there – like a letter on the nightstand, a card on the fridge door, an unexpected email or a short but sweet text message.

This is a good place to start if you are not sure how to express your feelings for them.

3. Give compliments

Showing your love for your family goes beyond the use of specific words. It also has a lot to do with small, daily actions. Giving compliments is a great way to let your family members know how you feel about them.

For example, you can congratulate them for a good meal, for keeping their rooms clean, for getting good grades in school, for a job achievement, or for handling a difficult situation.  Compliments are a form of empathy and leave the recipient happy and proud … And it does the same for the person giving them.

4. Physical contact

Words are not the only way to express your love for your family. Hugs, kisses, cuddles and pats on the back are also great ways to show love. In fact, people need physical contact from those around them to feel loved, cared for, and respected.

For example, you can touch a family member’s arm, hand, or head while talking to him or her. Or you can hold your hands as you walk through the park or greet them with a hug after spending the day apart.

5. Have fun together

Spending time with our children, siblings, parents or a partner is another way to show that we care about them. When we dedicate our time to our loved ones, we make them feel important and that there is nothing we would rather do. Do not forget that time is short and that you should only spend your time doing what is really important. Spending time with your family should be a priority.

So, go to the park or to the cinema, enjoy a game night with cards or board games, dance together or just laugh together. Is there anything better than spending time and having fun with the people you love the most?

6. Help them

Another handy way to show your family how much you love them is by offering your help. For example, you can work together to take care of household chores or you can help your children with homework. These are just a few options, but the possibilities are endless.

7. Ask for forgiveness

Asking for forgiveness when you make mistakes is another way to show your family that you love them. Why? Because we show them that they are important to us and that we are willing to do whatever it takes to fix our mistakes.

Finally, you can show your family that you love them through small gifts. They do not have to be expensive, or even bought in a store. Homemade, personalized gifts are much more meaningful because you put a part of your soul into them.
