"A Shorter Letter" - A short film about Christmas presents

“A Shorter Letter” is a short, animated film that all mothers and fathers should see with their children during Christmas. It helps us reflect on the abundance of Christmas presents that children receive and the little value they actually give them.

In this article, we present a short summary of this wonderful short film. But we recommend that you look at it yourself to really appreciate and understand its message. Haven’t you seen it yet? Click here!

Consumption anxiety: A problem that affects children

We live in a consumer society where we constantly shop and spend. Sometimes we do it without having any good control over the money we earn. This also affects our children as they grow up and learn this behavior from their role models – their parents.

Over time, children adopt these behaviors and grow up accustomed to living in an environment full of toys and to being constantly engaged in a variety of activities. This means that they can not appreciate what they have.

It is important to appreciate what we have

That’s why Audi launched a social campaign in 2018 and created an animated short film called “A Shorter Letter”. The intention was to make us all aware of the problem with our current consumption habits, especially during Christmas.

"A Shorter Letter": children write a wish list

“A Shorter Letter” tells the story of Tom, a boy who is angry and disappointed that Santa did not give him the remote-controlled car he wanted for Christmas. Instead, he got other toys that could also be fun to play with.

One day, Tom’s parents give him a letter from Santa himself. In it, he explains that the important thing is not to have many toys, but to get the most out of the toys he has. This makes the young man reflect. In the end, he decides to write a letter to Tandfen.

In the letter, he tells her that he does not want her to give him the remote-controlled car he originally wanted. He says he will not need it because he now has a new neighbor to share his toys with. In fact, the new friend happens to have just the remote-controlled car that Tom so wanted.

The short film ends with a beautiful lesson:

How to write a shorter wish list for the plot

We need to help our children write a shorter wish list. To make it a little easier, Audi created a digital tool that you can use to write a letter to Santa and the tooth fairy in a slightly more efficient way.

You only need to follow three steps:

  1. Write the child’s name.
  2. Select only four gifts.
  3. Send the list to family members via email.

However, choosing only four gifts is not always the easiest thing to do. You need to consider which gifts are best for your child. It is therefore advisable to choose four of these options:

  • A family experience (tickets to a musical, a concert, a zoo, an amusement park, etc.).
  • A gift that the child wants.
  • A musical instrument.
  • Something to practice a sport with.
  • A book, story or comic book.
  • A game that stimulates creativity.
  • Clothes or any accessory.

In addition, you should choose these gifts based on your child’s talents, tastes and hobbies.
