• The right mattress. It must be semi-solid and in a “breathable” material, and it must be about 10 centimeters thick.
• A flat and stable surface. The mattress must lie on a firm surface. This is important for the development of the baby’s spine. Remember that the little one will spend many hours in this place.
• Parallel slats. If the bed has slats, the space between them should be between 4 and 6 centimeters. This prevents the baby’s head from getting between them.

• Wheels with brakes. Some types of cots have wheels that can be moved easily. At least two of these wheels should have a braking system to prevent the bed from moving or an accident from unexpected movements.

As you can see, the crib should be both comfortable and safe.

When choosing it, it is necessary to emphasize that even if aesthetics are important, it is the child’s safety that must come first.

• Traditional wooden cots. Given their size, it can be expected that children can use them up to 2 years of age. The most modern creations include double height for the mattress, and even associated furniture.
• For active parents who travel a lot, there are special cots that are easy to transport, and that can be easily disassembled and reassembled. These are smaller than regular cots and can be used to sleep in or as a nursery for play. If you choose this as a permanent cot, you should add an extra mattress.
• Many parents choose a cot that sits as an extension on their own bed to be able to have their little one nearby. These types of cribs have three walls and can be put together with any bed.

Sometimes parents think that a number of toys should be within reach of the child in bed.

But there is something more important than aesthetics. The cot must be free and clean.

Toys and crib placement

Soft toys and pillows can be cute, but it is not recommended to have them in the crib.

Sometimes children fall asleep with these things, which then expose the child to serious danger and risk of suffocation, rash and other things.

When it comes to the placement of the crib, the most important thing is to keep it away from all objects. Nothing that could fall down and cause injury must be within the child’s reach.
